The rabbit show at the Inter-State Fair in Coffeyville took place on August 17, with champions crowned in the youth division.
Intermediate showmanship champion went to Simmone Bias, Welch, Okla., and junior showmanship champion was Morgan Lasco, Liberty, Kan.
Bias, who is eleven years old, is in her second year of showing rabbits at the Inter-State Fair. Last year, she won Best of 6 and Satin champion.
The Welch, Okla. girl had five rabbits (Sweetie, Tweety, Thumper, Bambi and Flola) at the fair, and two goats.
She will be in the sixth grade at Welch Public School this fall, where she enjoys math, plays basketball and softball, and is on the honor roll.
She also entered two art projects at the fair, and for fun, will ride the Freak Out carnival ride and eat funnel cakes, her favorites.
Her parents are TJ and Tiffany Rogers, and her mother said that showing animals has built her confidence and taught her responsibility. “She spends lots of time with them, a couple hours each evening. She’s outside most of the time.”
Junior showmanship champion Morgan Lasco is ten years old and had five rabbits at the fair. This is the third year for her to show rabbits, and she loves coming to the fair. Morgan enjoys walking through the cattle and lamb barns as well.
She will be a fifth grade student in Cherryvale this fall, where she plays soccer, softball, participates in dance, and plays the piano.
When she grows up, she’d like to be a veterinarian. She is the daughter of Susanne and Scott Lasco.
The rabbit show is sponsored by the Coffeyville Rotary Club, Haddox Rabbitry and DC Juntiques. The judge was Joan Snodgrass, Claremore, Okla.
