Coty Wilson was a winner in the poultry show at the 2017 Inter-State Fair in Coffeyville.
The Caney, Kan. youth won Best of breed for large fowl, single comb light brown leghorn, Best of breed for buttercup, Reserve of breed for black rose comb rooster, Best of breed for black rose comb hen, Reserve rose comb clean leg fowl, Reserve of breed for light brown leghorn bantam rooster, and Reserve bantam of show, Best of breed, and Best of single comb clean leg for light brown leghorn bantam hen.
The fifteen year old has been showing chickens since he was seven years old, and has shown at the Inter-State Fair for the past six years.
He has about sixty chickens at home, with a variety of breeds.
He will be a sophomore at Caney Valley High School this fall, where he is on the golf team, in band, and on the debate team. Arguing is one of his best skills, he said. “I love to argue. Sometimes I’ll argue with my brother, just for the fun of it.” But if he argues with his mom, there’s always a clear winner. “Mom always wins,” he said.
When he is an adult, he’d like to become a doctor.
For fun at the fair, once the poultry show is over, Coty will be attending the rodeo and riding carnival rides.
He is the son of Rick and Cheryl Wilson.
Sponsor of the show is Treasures and Trinkets and KB Farms. The judge of the show was James Miller, Coal Camp, Mo.
